Marudheeshwara temple

Murudeshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva..It is an ancient hindu temple..It is famous for the world’s tallest second statue of lord Shiva which was placed in the uttara kannada in Karnataka district. Murdeshwar Temple was built on the Kanduka Hill which is surrounded on three sides by the waters of the Arabian Sea. Interesting one??!!The temple authorities have installed a lift that provides a view of the 123-feet Sri Shiva idol from the top of the Raja Gopura. Two life-size elephants in concrete stand guard at the steps leading to it.

The temple was built with Chalukya and Kadamba sculptures in the Dravidian style..The town was earlier known as 'Mrideshwara' and later renamed as Murudeshwar after the construction of the temple..Maha Shivaratri is the major festival celebrated at this temple on a grand scale, attracting thousands of people from Karnataka and the nearby states.. If you are not a religious person, but you will visit the temple once you must like the temple.

Around the majestic Shiva statue, amidst lush green lawns is the statue park that beautifully depicts the history behind the temple and is adorned with many more sculptures. One of the top things to do in Murudeshwar right inside the temple complex, the statue park portrays legends from the Ramayana including the story of the Atma-linga with images of Ganesh and Ravana. Also eye-catching is the Surya statue as well as those of Krishna and Arjuna from the Mahabharata. Do not miss the glorious sunset views from the area right behind the park. A small Shani temple close by is also worth visiting..The Murudeshwar beach is a beautiful and clean sandy beach extending to 2-3 kilometers with shallow waters to will enjoy the sea also..If you will plan to visit the temple , you go for the winter season (October — March). If I will get to visit this temple, I must share the experience with you..

We will meet in next post..
